NEW ORLEANS, LA – September 24, 2018 – Tales of the Cocktail Foundation is honored to provide our Cocktail Apprentices the opportunity to apply for an exclusive scholarship to attend the BAR® 5-Day Spirits & Mixology Certification Program. We are proud to announce and congratulate the recipients of the 2019 BAR® Scholarships: Cam Brown, Bobby Murphy, and Mary Palac, who will all receive a scholarship valued at approximately $4,000 for tuition and travel expenses to attend the 14th BAR® 5-Day Spirits & Mixology Certification Program in New York City in 2019.

Founded by six of the biggest names in the bartending industry- Dale DeGroff, Doug Frost, Steve Olson, F. Paul Pacult, Andy Seymour, and David Wondrich, the BAR® Program has gained recognition as one of the top bartender training programs in the country.

“We are grateful to have a partner like BAR® who can help further the work Tales of the Cocktail has been doing with the CAPS for the past decade,” said Caroline Rosen, Executive Director of Tales of the Cocktail Foundation. “This year’s recipients represent world-class talent with an unparalleled amount of passion, raw skill, and enthusiasm for the craft — it will be an honor to watch them grow through the BAR® Program. Congratulations to this year’s recipients!”

Founded in 2008, the Tales of the Cocktail Apprentice Program® (CAP) aims to give talented bartenders the opportunity to hone their craft alongside industry veterans. Working directly with presenters for the Tales of the Cocktail seminars, the apprentices gain experience working high-volume, large-scale events, while simultaneously learning about the history and techniques of their craft. After their participation in the program, former members seeking further education opportunities are eligible to apply for the Cocktail Apprentice BAR® Scholarship. In the years since starting the scholarship program, 39 former Cocktail Apprentices have taken part in BAR® 5-Day.

MARY PALAC

“As I began my bartending career years ago I made 2 lofty goals early on: I would one day be a part of the Cocktail Apprentice Program, and I would complete the BAR 5 DAY course. I am so thrilled and honored to now be heading to BAR 5 DAY as a CAP Alumni, and even more so as a beneficiary of the generous CAP Scholarship. There are few programs that are as respected as BAR 5 DAY, and I am truly looking forward to the wealth of knowledge and skill this course can give me. And I’m even more excited to bring as much of that knowledge as I can to my home bar Paper Plane, and my growing bartending community in San Jose, CA.”
